LeanPrint works by automatically optimising document layouts and managing toner cartridge output so consumption is as streamlined as possible.
It works on all types of printer – be it inkjet, laser, personal device or networked printer.
Adobe said in the current economic climate consumers and businesses are increasingly looking to save money, making its new tool an attractive proposition.
Adobe LeanPrint provides plug-ins that work with common desktop applications like Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Users can also manage settings so that they get a clear picture of the savings for each print job, selecting the amount of paper and toner used.
"With LeanPrint, we are bringing together our commitment to the environment and a deep understanding of the print industry to further drive down printing costs," said Raman Nagpal, senior director and general manager, Adobe Print and Scan.
