HP to launch 'ultra thin' paper

26 March 2012
Printer paper is pretty thin as it is, isn't it?

The firm is set to launch a range of ultra-thin paper that promises 22 per cent lower environmental impact than standard paper, according to a Business Green report.

The product, called Thin Paper, is to weigh 60 grams per square metre, less than the 75 gram weight of normal paper.

This means less resources – like water – would be used in the paper's production and transportation costs and emissions would also be reduced.

Could it affect the quality of your prints? Well, we hear it won't be any cheaper than standard paper, so we hope not.

It's set to launch in North America later this year and could be on sale in Europe as early as the end of the year.

Dave Lobato, environmental programme manager for HP's imaging and printing group, announced the new paper at a sustainable printing event in Milan.

Oh – and it's designed for use in HP printers only, but we can't see any reason why it would be just as good in a non-HP machine.
