A study by Avery found that over half of the UK's workers say they would be happier and more positive at work if the companies they work for got behind their attempts to help the environment – such as recycling, saving energy and turning lights and unused machines off.
Some 41 per cent of office employees said they had found themselves in an "awkward situation" with a manager in the past for trying to launch green practices in the workplace.
And 40 per cent said they would avoid suggesting green working practices altogether because they didn't want to be seen as 'nagging'.
A significant number of workers – 60 per cent – said a company's green credentials would greatly influence whether or not they applied for a job with them.
