Recycling initiative with HP and Dr Seuss

18 July 2012
What to think about when buying a printer for the home

A sustainability campaign has been launched this week by HP in conjunction with the release of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax later this month.

The scheme entitled ‘Every Inkling Makes a Difference’ draws on the theme of responsible consumption, represented in the film by the Lorax - a character who represents the voice of the trees.

Helping to set the precedent of responsible consumption and sustainability, HP have increased the efficiency of their ink and laser printing products since 2005 by 46 per cent, exceeding its original aim of 40 per cent.

Combining their longstanding leadership in environmental sustainability HP has teamed up with Universal Pictures and Scholastic in order to produce a series of science-based educational materials focussing on sustainability.

Designed to encourage classroom discussion of environmental issues like recycling these materials are available online for free for both teachers and families. Other online resources on sustainable printing have been made available by HP with educational articles and videos outlining how to select printing products with the environment in mind.

These include buying remanufactured cartridges and recycling them after use. The ‘Print Like a Lorax’ initiative does not stop there however.

Following the film’s release in the US in March, students  in the US have been able to upload short stories outlining creative ideas on how families and communities can live more sustainably. The prizes awarded by HP are designed to further students’ educational future and include a $10,000 college scholarship.

In the UK, HP has also collaborated with the Eden Project, home of the largest indoor rainforest, in order to further spread the message of sustainability.

To be in with a chance to win a weekend trip for your family, an Energy-star qualified HP printer and cinema tickets to see The Lorax, simply take a photo of your family’s favourite tree and tweet your picture to @HPHitPrint_UK with the hashtag #HPLorax.

For more fun for the family, head to HP’s website for a wealth of colouring materials, puzzles and other activities that incorporate eco-friendly tips.
